Olympiad Training in Bangalore by Charaka Learning
The International Mathematics
Olympiad (IMO) is one of the most eminent examinations at the college
level. In a total of hundred competing countries, a bunch of six students are
chosen to represent their respective countries in order to win the coveted Gold
Medal. In India, the selection of these students is done through Indian
National Mathematics Olympiad (INMO)
which acts as a passage to IMO. About 30 candidates are shortlisted from all
over the country through this test. This is followed by training at the Orientation
Cum Selection Camp (OCSC), and six from amongst them are chosen to represent
India at the IMO.
Saying that INMO is a difficult exam would be quite an
understatement. It requires an aptitude and thorough knowledge of the subject. At
Charaka, we provide the apt Olympiad exam preparation order for
the students to make their mark in history.
Selection Process of International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO):
1.
Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO):
This test is held at a regional level. The country is divided into
various regions and each region conducts their RMO. Students of STD IX, X and
XI are eligible for the exam. This paper has a total of 6-8 questions and is a
three hour examination worth 100 marks. Though the same set of questions are asked
in every region to maintain uniformity, but some regions may opt to hold their
own RMOs. Usually the cut offs range between 40-50 marks, but may vary with
respect to the difficulty of the paper.
2.
Indian National Mathematics
Olympiad (INMO):
Post
the RMOs, 30 students from every region are selected for the INMO i.e. the
second stage. If students are expected to solve only 6 questions in a period of
4 hours, it suggests that the problems asked must be quite difficult. And to
add to that, despite having so much time students are barely able to solve even
2-3 questions. In order to qualify for the next level however, solving 4
questions is enough. The problems involve rigorous mathematics and not the
tedious kind that most students are accustomed to. The solution doesn’t strike immediately
after you see the problem and hence requires a step by step approach to reach
the final answer. The complex-looking solution is built from a number of
elementary steps. So, while the problems and their solutions may appear out of
hand at the first glance, they are indeed possible to solve through small and
basic steps.
While most students preparing for the Olympiads are already
pre-occupied with their entrance exam preparations, however, it is a good practice
for one who loves Mathematics. At Charaka, we encourage our students to take up
part in Olympiad and increase their learning abilities. Olympiad Exam Preparation at our coaching classes in Bangalore acts as a boon for the interested
students as we impart learning using a mix blend of tuition, mock tests, study
materials and doubt clearing sessions.
